‘Phlomis fruticosa’
Known in Greek as ‘Flomis’ or ‘Asfaka’. It is a wild growing evergreen shrub native to many Mediterranean countries, very common in Crete where this variety is originally from.
It has long, lush and fuzzy leaves with bold spears of vibrant yellow flowers which are great for attracting pollinators.
Popular in herbal medicine thanks to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Brewed as a medicinal tea for coughs and respiratory issues, it is also used to soothe and treat wounds.
Jerusalem sage has a a sweet earthy aroma with mild peppery flavour very different to other sage varieties it is more related to mint than sage.
Very hardy plant will grow well in free draining and poor/sandy soils. Best kept in a large pot or in the ground.
