‘Phlomis fruticosa’

  • Known in Greek as ‘Flomis’ or ‘Asfaka’. It is a wild growing evergreen shrub native to many Mediterranean countries, very common in Crete where this variety is originally from.

  • It has long, lush and fuzzy leaves with bold spears of vibrant yellow flowers which are great for attracting pollinators.

  • Popular in herbal medicine thanks to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Brewed as a medicinal tea for coughs and respiratory issues, it is also used to soothe and treat wounds.

  • Jerusalem sage has a a sweet earthy aroma with mild peppery flavour very different to other sage varieties it is more related to mint than sage.

  • Very hardy plant will grow well in free draining and poor/sandy soils. Best kept in a large pot or in the ground.
